Bedford Borough Council is an innovative forward thinking Mayoral unitary council. To meet the challenges of the increased caseload in Child Care experienced during the pandemic we are looking to recruit two experienced Child Care Advocates to assist the dedicated Legal Services and Children’s Services Teams.

We are looking for two very experienced childcare advocates, preferably with experience of Local Authority work, to focus on the conduct of complex and sensitive childcare matters and be the Council’s principal advocates in the courts. You will be expected to have experience of conducting hearings at all levels of the Court structure and deal with hearings from initiating level to substantive lengthy Final hearings of varying complexity in nature.

This is an ideal opportunity to work in a Local Authority environment with the Legal and Child Care professionals to gain experience and insight to care proceedings from the local authority perspective.

The Council offers excellent benefits including home working, flexible working hours, pension and generous holiday entitlement.

The contract will be for a fixed term for up to 12 months. A driving license is essential.

For an informal discussion please contact Jahangir Ahmed, Team Manager, ACE team, Legal Services Unit Telephone: 01234 228743.

To apply you will need to upload a current CV and a document detailing how you meet the selection criteria for the role.  The selection criteria can be found in the job profile below.  Optional CV and selection criteria templates are provided below.  If you do not upload both documents the panel may be unable to score your application.

Please note:

The Council will not re-employ ex-employees who are in receipt of a local government pension.
