Bedford Borough Council are currently recruiting for an exciting opportunity as Manager for Refuse, Recycling & Street Cleansing.

 

With the recent news of the Universal Theme Park coming to the Borough due to draw in several millions of annual visitors by 2031, the Borough is an exciting environment to be involved in.

 

As Manager for Refuse, Recycling & Street Cleansing, you will have full operational responsibility for the delivery of the Council’s domestic & commercial refuse recycling collections as well as the Street Cleansing services.

 

On a daily basis you will be involved in completing duties such as;

  • To manage, maintain and develop an effective and efficient front line waste management collection service which delivers a responsive and effective service to the residents and businesses.
  • To be responsible for the operational service including domestic commercial waste and street cleansing operations and associated management team. 
  • To drive change and efficiencies to the front-line services.
  • To be responsible for the management of the Depots Waste Transfer Station ensuring proper day to day control adhering to legislation, quality and safety standards at all times.
  • Ensuring Health and Safety Environmental and Operators Licence compliance for the council’s fleet.
     

The successful candidate will have theoretical, practical and procedural knowledge of a specialist environmental service (e.g. refuse, recycling  & street cleansing) frontline operations), plus detailed knowledge of all services provided by the service area including policies, procedures, legislation, and the wider organisation. (e.g. comprehensive knowledge of driving standards, tacho management and legal driving regulations).

 

Substantial, recent experience in Environmental Services domain including in a management capacity is essential for this role.
