This is a development role within the democratic services team to build capacity and to enable workforce planning by providing direct support to the Service Manager and Senior Democratic Services Officers while developing a wide area of knowledge within the service area by working alongside an experienced and knowledgeable team.
You will be required to provide support to the council democratic processes, principally decision-making arrangements involving elected Members; this includes supporting a range of meetings (committees, sub-committees, working parties, etc.). The role provides reliable advice and support to Members and others as necessary to ensure that all procedures comply with the requirements of relevant legislation and the Council’s Constitution.
It would be helpful to have a good knowledge of the law relating to Council committee meetings and have experience of supporting committees within a political environment but not essential as training and support will be provided to develop into the role. You must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be committed to team working, and have a flexible approach to work. This post holder must be available to work "out of the normal office hours" during the week as dictated by the requirements of the service ie. Committee meetings commence at 6.30pm.
